Biography

Graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Earlham College in 1984.  Completed a doctorate in Public Policy with an international development focus and Africa regional concentration in 1991.  Founded the academic group, Gays & Lesbians in African Studies (GLAS) as part of the African Studies Association.  Between 1992 and 1996 I worked for the USAID-funded AIDSCAP project to fight HIV/AIDS internationally.  Initiated the Private Sector AIDS Policy (PSAP) project with AIDSCAP, an innovative approach to initiating workplace-based HIV/AIDS policies and programs in developing countries.  I continue to be active in these planning efforts.  Moved to Chicago in 1999 to serve as the Midwest Regional Director for Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, the oldest and largest national organization committed to achieving full civil rights for lesbians, gay men, and people with HIV/AIDS.
